FARMINGTON, Utah (June 25, 2026) – After finishing as the No. 23 team in the country at the 2026 Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, the Northern Arizona men’s outdoor track & field team has been named Big Sky Conference Commissioner’s Team of the Month for June.
The Lumberjacks scored 11 points in Eugene, Oregon, to finished tied nationally with Penn State and Purdue, securing a top-25 finish.
Northern Arizona’s performance at nationals was highlighted by the efforts of Colin Sahlman, as it has been at numerous meets through the years.
Sahlman claimed his third individual National Championship this calendar year with a first place finish in the men’s 800-meter. He capped off his career as a Lumberjack with a personal best time and Big Sky Conference Record of 1:44.2. His title was the first on the outdoor circuit for the Big Sky since 2010, and the first-ever in the men’s 800-meter.
Sahlman was the men’s 3,000-meter champion indoors, along with serving as the anchor leg on NAU’s National Championship distance medley relay team.
He wasn’t the only Lumberjack with a big showing in Eugene, however, as teammate Josiah Johson claimed First Team All-American honors in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.56. Johnson finished in eighth place at Hayward Field.
Johnson was also part of that DMR team that finished as the best in the nation.
Johnson and Sahlman were the only athletes from the Big Sky to earn First Team All-American honors at the National Championship meet this season.
In March, the Lumberjack men were also named Team of the Month for their performance at the Indoor Track & Field National Championships.
