Montana Athletics Named Commissioner’s Team of the Month Following Dominant September Showing

In total, Montana accounted for 11 weekly honors from the Big Sky Conference in September

FARMINGTON, Utah (Oct. 2, 2025) – It was a September to remember in Missoula, and to celebrate, Montana Athletics has been named Big Sky Conference Commissioner’s Team of the Month.

Across the month’s 30 days, Montana’s football, soccer and volleyball programs combined to go 19-1 and put the Big Sky on notice in all three sports.

The volleyball program went 10-0 through the course of September, including a 2-0 start to Big Sky play. They are currently on the longest winning streak the program has had this century and swept their opening two conference matches for the first time since 1990.

Griz football has started the season 4-0, highlighted by victories over No. 8 Idaho and No. 16 North Dakota in Missoula. On Monday, the Grizzlies were named Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week after reclaiming the Little Brown Stein on ESPN2.

Heading into this week, the Grizzlies are the No. 4 team in the nation according to Stats Perform. That also makes them the highest-ranked Big Sky team.

UM soccer finished the month 5-1 and will host the Big Sky Soccer Championship at the conclusion of the regular season campaign. In that stretch they racked up victories over both Gonzaga and Washington State. It was the program’s first time beating Washington State since 2004, and Gonzaga since 2014, snapping lengthy droughts against both opponents.

In total, Montana accounted for 11 weekly honors from the Big Sky Conference in September across all sports.
