Montana Soccer Named October Commissioner’s Team of the Month

The Grizzlies finished Big Sky play with 20 points (6-0-2) to finish four whole points clear of the next closest team

FARMINGTON, Utah (Oct. 30, 2024) – After claiming back-to-back regular season titles, and securing two-consecutive unbeaten conference seasons, the Montana soccer program has been named Big Sky Conference Commissioner’s Team of the Month for October.

This past Sunday, the Griz topped Weber State in Ogden 3-0 to claim the title and secure the No. 1 overall seed in next month’s Big Sky Soccer Championship at South Campus Stadium in Missoula.

The Grizzlies finished Big Sky play with 20 points (6-0-2) to finish four whole points clear of the next closest team. It's the first time in league history a program has gone unbeaten in back-to-back seasons.

Overall, Montana is 12-2-4 on the year, with its only losses coming against Washington State and Fresno State, who will be part of the re-built Pac-12 in the coming years.

Montana also finished the regular season without a loss at home, going 9-0-1.

The Griz have a lot of players that lead to their offensive success, but Jen Estes has separated herself with seven goals and four assists in 18 appearances this year.

In 13 appearances, keeper Bayliss Flynn has an incredible goals against average of 0.38, giving up just five scores all season long. She was pushed into action in replacement of reigning Big Sky Freshman of the Year, Ashlyn Dvorak, who was sidelined due to injury after making five starts.

Chris Citowicki has now led his team to a Big Sky title in six of his seven seasons leading the Grizzlies, whether that be in the regular season or tournament.

Montana will next be in action in the semifinals of the 2024 Big Sky Soccer Championship on their home grass. That match will make place at 2 p.m. MT on Friday, November 8 against either No. 4-seeded Northern Arizona or No. 5-seeded Sacramento State.

The 2024 Big Sky Soccer Championship can be streamed live on ESPN+.
