FARMINGTON, Utah (May 2, 2025) – After claiming the Big Sky regular season title, and finishing league play with a 13-2 record, the Idaho State softball program has been named Commissioner’s Team of the Month for April.
The Bengals claimed their fifth regular season championship in program history and will be seeking their first postseason title next week in Greeley, Colorado.
In April, Idaho State went an impressive 13-2, which included an 11-game winning streak.
The Bengals currently lead the Big Sky in team batting average (.313), pitching (3.56 ERA) and fielding (.970 FLD%). ISU features the top two batters in the league, with Gracie Smith hitting .390 and Ava Brown hitting .388. Brown also broke the Big Sky single-season record for home runs with 24 across 49 appearances.
They also have the top two pitchers in terms of ERA, with Lizzy Tommasini giving up just 2.93 and Kasey Aguinaga at 3.00. Aguinaga leads the league in total wins with 14.
This past Saturday freshman pitcher Megan Meracle carved her name into Idaho state softball history, as she became the first Bengal to toss a perfect game.
Idaho State has racked up nine Player of the Week titles so far this season.
The Bengals were projected second in the Big Sky Softball Coaches’ Poll.
The 2025 Big Sky Softball Championship will be held May 6-9 at Northern Colorado’s Softball Field in Greeley, Colorado.
All six Big Sky softball teams will advance to the double-elimination tournament. The tournament champion will earn the Big Sky’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
