FARMINGTON, Utah (Feb. 5, 2026) – Following a stretch that will be remember in Bozeman forever, Montana State Athletics has been named Big Sky Conference Commissioner’s Team of the Month for January.
In a month with several notable moments, the biggest came on January 5 when the Bobcats won the 2025 FCS National Championship in overtime against Illinois State in Nashville, Tennessee. It marked the first national championship for Montana State since 1984, and the first for the Big Sky Conference since 2010 when Eastern Washington ended the season on top.
The Bobcats concluded their season with a 14-2 record, including a perfect 8-0 record in Big Sky play, while winning each of their last 14 games to bring the national championship trophy back to Bozeman.
Montana State has also had a lot of highlights on the hardwood, as the women’s basketball team has started Big Sky Conference play 9-1. Highlighted by USBWA National Player of the Week Taylee Chirrick, the Bobcats sit in a tie on top of the Big Sky Conference standings in pursuit of a second-consecutive regular season title.
They’ve also seen success in men’s basketball, as the Bobcats are currently in a tie for second in the standings with a 7-3 record in league play.
On January 17, the same day as the national championship parade in Bozeman, the Bobcats swept the Griz in men’s and women’s basketball at home.
The Bobcats have also seen a lot of success during their indoor track and field campaign. Montana State claimed four Big Sky Athlete of the Week honors during January, highlighted by Hailey Coey who is ranked No. 9 nationally for the women’s long jump and Sydney Brewster who is No. 15 for the women’s shot put.
Additionally, Montana State claimed a pair of Tennis Player of the Week awards from the conference office for Yassin Elaroussy and Angel Bean, as the Bobcats opened up their spring slate on the court.
