Murphy, Hawkins Highlight Weekly Honors for #BigSkyTennis

The Montana and MSU pair each went 3-1 against their Sacramento State and NAU foes this past week

FARMINGTON, Utah (April 10, 2024) – Big Sky Tennis Player of the Week honors were announced by the conference office on Wednesday, with Hailey Murphy (Montana) and Hudson Hawkins (Montana State) sharing honors on the women's side, while Dani Torres (Northern Arizona) earned laurels for the men's side following his big weekend on the courts.

Men's Tennis Player the Week: Dani Torres, Northern Arizona
Dani Torres led Northern Arizona to a pair of conference wins over Eastern Washington and Idaho State, as the junior earned weekly honors. Torres posted a 4-0 record for the Lumberjacks, as he picked up a pair of victories in singles and doubles play. 

Torres, a junior from Valencia, Spain, played his singles and doubles matches at the No. 2 spot for the Lumberjacks as he clinched both doubles points over the weekend alongside partner Maciej Ziomber. Torres closed out his weekend of play by officially clinching the win against Idaho State in singles action. 
 
Torres now holds an overall singles record of 11-3 and an overall doubles record of 12-5.

The weekly conference honor for Torres is the first of his career. 

Co-Women's Tennis Player the Week: Hailey Murphy, Montana/Hudson Hawkins, Montana State
Hailey Murphy and Hudson Hawkins each posted 3-1 records this past week, as the pair helped their squads defeat Sacramento State and Northern Arizona. The Griz downed NAU, 6-1, and Sac State 5-2, while the Bobcats defeated NAU, 4-3, and Sac State, 5-2. The victory for MSU over NAU was its first for the women's program since 2009. 

Murphy, a sophomore from Calgary, won both of her singles matches at the No. 1 position in the lineup for the Griz, while splitting action at the top spot in doubles play with partner Kelsey Phillips. Murphy is now 5-0 in Big Sky singles, 13-3 on the season overall, and 9-1 since taking over the No. 1 position for the Griz. 

Hawkins, a freshman from Las Vegas, won her two singles contests at the No. 6 position in the lineup for the Bobcats, while splitting action at the top spot in doubles play with partner Marta Garcia-Reboredo. Hawkins has now won her last five singles matches, while winning eight of the last 10 contests in doubles play with Garcia-Reboredo.

The weekly conference honors for Murphy and Hawkins was the first of their careers.
