Four Earn #BigSkyTennis Honors

Sacramento State's Riva wins second weekly honor of the season

FARMINGTON, Utah (March 27, 2024) – An exciting week of tennis yielded four honorees for Big Sky Tennis Players of the Week, as Mate Voros of Sacramento State and Hiroki Fujita of Idaho State shared laurels on the men's side and Irene Riva of Sacramento State and Rachelle Starreveld of Idaho were co-honorees on the women's side.

Co-Men's Tennis Player the Week: Mate Voros, Sac State/Hiroki Fujita, Idaho State
Mate Voros went 2-0 and clinched Sacramento State's win over Idaho State, winning at the No. 1 spot for both singles and doubles play. Voros is now 7-4 in singles action this season and 7-2 in doubles play. 

The weekly conference honor is the second of his career and third of the season for the Hornets as a team.

Hiroki Fujita compiled a 4-1 record to net co-weekly honors, as the Bengal went 2-1 in singles action and 2-0 in doubles play. Fujita helped the Bengals bounce back from a loss to Sacramento State with a pair of league wins against Portland State and Montana State. 

The weekly conference honor is the first of his career and fourth of the season for the Bengals as a team. 

Co-Women's Tennis Player the Week: Irene Riva, Sac State/Rachelle Starreveld, Idaho
Irene Riva posted a 5-1 record this past week, as she helped Sacramento State down Idaho State and Northern Arizona in conference play. Riva is now 13-2 in singles action on the year and 9-1 in doubles play. 

The weekly honor for Riva is the second of the freshman's career and fourth of the season overall for the Hornets as a team. 

Idaho's Rachelle Starreveld went 2-0 for the Vandals as she clinched a 4-3 win for Idaho over Eastern Washington. The victory improved Idaho's record to 8-5 on the year, which ties their highest total of wins since 2019. 

The weekly conference honor is the first of her career.
