FARMINGTON, Utah (Feb. 7, 2024) – Montana State's Angel Bean and Montana's Fernando Perez were honored as Big Sky Tennis Players of the Week, following a pair of impressive performances that included match clinchers.
Men's Tennis Player the Week: Fernando Perez, Montana
Fernando Perez helped lead Montana to a pair of wins over Eastern Washington and Grand Canyon in Missoula this weekend by going undefeated in singles and clinching the victory for the Griz over the Antelopes in dramatic fashion.
Perez, a junior from Murica, Spain, breezed past EWU's Caden Kammerer 6-1, 6-1, on Friday in a 7-0 Grizzly win. On Sunday, he ground out a two-hour, three set, come-from-behind win over fellow Spaniard Pablo Salvador 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, to clinch Montana's 4-1 win over GCU.
Perez' two doubles matches both went unfinished, leaving him at 2-0 overall on the weekend.
Women's Tennis Player the Week: Angel Bean, Montana State
Freshman Angel Bean clinched a pair of contests for Montana State over the weekend, as the Montreal native won three matches overall.
Bean went 2-0 In singles play as she faced off against South Dakota and Drake foes at the No. 4 spot. Against USD, she downed Anna Medvyedyeva 6-2, 7-5; and followed that with a 6-4, 7-6(9) win over Drake's Rebecca Ehn. Bean fought off two set points in the tiebreaker to snatch the victory.
In doubles play against Drake, Bean combined with Jazmin Lerman at the No. 2 spot, where the tandem clinched the doubles points with a 7-6(7) win. The duo was down early 4-0 before rallying for the victory.
