FARMINGTON, Utah (April 29, 2025) – No. 75 Sacramento State will take on No. 21 California in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament on Friday, May 2, as the Hornets face the Golden Bears for the second-straight year in postseason play.

Sacramento State, who is coming off a successful Big Sky tournament title defense this past weekend in Phoenix, was selected as the No. 3 seed in the region and will face No. 2 seed Cal after falling to the Golden Bears, 4-0, last season in Berkeley.

Sacramento State and Cal will be joined by host and No. 16 national seed Washington and No. 4-seeded Stetson in the two-day, four-team regional, with the winners advancing to Saturday's second round. First serve between the Hornets and Golden Bears is slated for 11:00 a.m. PT time, with live stats for Friday's match found here

The Hornets are making their 15th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament, entering the postseason with a 21-3 overall record and a Big Sky Conference tournament championship for the second-consecutive season. The tournament title was the 13th in school history — the most of any women's program in the history of the Big Sky.

This postseason will also mark the third time in the last four years a Big Sky team has faced Cal in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament, with Sacramento State taking on the Golden Bears twice in the last two years and Northern Arizona making the trip out to Berkeley in 2022.

The Big Sky has not had a team win its opening match of the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament since it began in 1999. The closest margin of defeat came from the Hornets in 2004, as Sacramento State fell to Fresno State, 4-3.
