Gorbunova Wins Second-Straight #BigSkyTennis Weekly Honor

Gorbunova now owns five weekly honors for her career

FARMINGTON, Utah (March 20, 2024) – For the second-straight week, Sacramento State's Mayya Gorbunova was awarded Big Sky Tennis Player of the Week honors following her outstanding efforts on the court. Montana's Fernando Perez and Northern Arizona's Maciej Ziomber claimed co-honors on the men's side to round out this past week's awards. 

Co-Men's Tennis Player the Week: Fernando Perez, Montana/Maciej Ziomber, NAU
Fernando Perez went 2-0 on the week, after helping Montana down Portland State in conference action. Perez clinched the 4-3 win over the Vikings with a straight set victory on court three, adding to his doubles win from earlier in the day. 

Maciej Ziomber clinched both victories for Northern Arizona this past week with singles wins against San Francisco and Sacramento State, alongside a doubles point clinch against USF. Ziomber now holds an overall singles record of 7-2 and a doubles record of 6-5.

The weekly conference honors for Perez was the second of his career, while the award for Ziomber was the first as a Lumberjack. 

Women's Tennis Player the Week: Mayya Gorbunova, Sacramento State
Mayya Gorbunova won weekly honors for the second consecutive week, after going 4-0 with a pair of conference wins against Weber State and Idaho State. 

Gorbunova won at the top of the order again in singles action, improving her record to 9-1 at that spot. The senior also added two doubles wins on her resume, winning both contests alongside partner Lou Baudouin at the No. 3 position. 

The weekly honor for Gorbunova from the conference office is the fifth of her career and second for the season.
