FARMINGTON, Utah (February 15, 2022) – Following back-to-back red-hot scoring performances, Northern Colorado’s Daylen Kountz has been named ROAR Organic Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
On Monday evening Kountz helped pull the Bears back into a contest against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, and eventually propelled them to a win. UNC was down 17 points with 5:37 to play, but stormed back to outscored them 32-10 down the stretch and win. During those five and a half minutes, Kountz had 16 of UNC’s points. He finished with 30 total, along with seven rebounds, four assists and a steal all while shooting 63% from the field.
Earlier in the week against Sacramento State he finished with 27 points, six rebounds, four assists and a block. He also shot 63 percent in that contest.
Kountz has had eight-consecutive 20-point games, and three 30-point outings.
The Denver native has been the league’s leading scorer practically all season long, averaging 21.4 points per game overall and 23.8 ppg in league play exclusively. He also has 65 assists and 24 steals, along with averaging 4.0 rebounds per game. He had his season high against Arizona with 33 points.
This is the second honor for Kountz this season, after taking home the title following the first week of the regular season.
