FARMINGTON, Utah (February 1, 2022) – After averaging a double-double and matching the highest-scoring single-game in the Big Sky this season, Southern Utah’s Tevian Jones has been named ROAR Organic Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Jones had back-to-back impressive outings all while helping the Thunderbirds go 2-0 on the week.
Against Portland State on the road Jones scored 36 points, which matched the highest single-game scoring output in the league this season by any player, along with pulling down 10 rebounds.
Both Jones and Northern Arizona’s Jalen Cone have scored 36 points in a single game this year.
Then at home on Monday against NAU he secured a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, along with two steals.
For the pair of contests, he averaged 82 percent shooting from the free throw line.
Last season, Jones was the first Thunderbird to be named First Team All-Conference in the school’s history, as was named Preseason MVP prior to the 2020-21 campaign getting going. He is the third Thunderbird this season to take home the honor, as Maizen Fausett secured two and John Knight III has one.
This is Jones’ second career honor after winning one last season.
Others Nominated: Bryce Fowler (Sacramento State), Jubrile Belo (Montana State), Koby McEwen (Weber State), Josh Bannan (Montana), Ezekiel Alley (Portland State), Daylen Kountz (Northern Colorado)
