UNC’s Kountz Earns First Player of the Week Award For 2021-22 Campaign

Kountz helped navigate his team to three wins in the opening week of the season, including two big victories over Pacific and Hawaii

FARMINGTON, Utah (November 16, 2021) – After earning MVP honors from the Rainbow Classic in Hawaii, Northern Colorado’s Daylen Kountz has been named Big Sky Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the first seven days of the regular season.
 
Kountz helped navigate his team to three wins in the opening week of the year, including two big victories over Pacific and Hawaii.
 
In their opening contest against Pacific, Kountz finished with 22 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. He also shot 11-of-17 from the field. The following night against Hawaii, Kountz finished with 21 points, along with dishing out four assists.
 
He opened the year in Hawaii with a string of three-straight 20-point games, as he finished with 20 and nine rebounds against Hawaii-Hilo.
 
On the week he averaged 17.3 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, 2.75 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game. He did all that while shooting 52 percent from the field.
 
Kountz is a senior transfer from Colorado and originally hails from Denver. During the 2020-21 season he started all 22 games for UNC and averaged 14.1 ppg.
 
This marks his first career honor.
