Consecutive Game-Winners Earn SAC’s Chappell Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Honors

The Big Sky isn’t alone in honoring Chappell, as he was named National Player of the Week by College Insider

FARMINGTON, Utah (December 13, 2022) – After hitting the game-winning shot to knock off both Denver in overtime and Long Beach State, Sacramento State’s Zach Chappell has been named Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
 
The Big Sky isn’t alone in honoring Chappell, as he was named National Player of the Week by College Insider.
 
He scored a team-high 25 points in both contests, shooting 61 percent from the field over the course of the week.
 
With six seconds left in the Long Beach State win, Chappell went coast-to-coast, and hit a highly contested layup with 0.5 seconds left to deliver the win. In Wednesday's victory against Denver, the Sacramento native hit a shot with five seconds left to force overtime, and then hit another clutch shot with two seconds left to deliver the 87-85 win.
 
Both game winners were contested layups he made with his opposite hand.
 
All 25 points in the win against Denver came after halftime. Chappell is averaging 22.5 points over his last four games and continues to play at a high level.
 
Overall, this season, he is averaging 15.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 49 percent from the field, 43 percent from the 3-point line and 80 percent from the free throw line.
 
Chappell is a transfer from San Jose state who played in all 29 games for the Hornets a season ago.

The 2023 Big Sky Conference Basketball Championships will take place once again in Boise, Idaho, and run from March 4-8 at Idaho Central Arena.
