FARMINGTON, Utah (Oct. 3, 2022) - After successful weekends for Syd Cole (Northern Colorado) and Caty Cordano (Sacramento State), the pair was selected as Big Sky Volleyball Players of the Weeks, the conference office announced on Monday.
Offensive Player of the Week - Syd Cole (Northern Colorado)
Northern Colorado's Syd Cole helped the Bears finish the weekend 2-0, winning matches against Portland State and Sacramento State. Cole had a total of 102 assists, posting 44 against the Vikings and 58 against the Hornets. These numbers put her in the No.1 spot in the Big Sky for single-match assist totals in both a 3-set (44) and a 4-set (58) match. As of Sunday, her 58 assists have only been bettered once in all of NCAA DI this season in a 4-set match. The junior leads the conference in both total assists (646) and assists per set (11.14). The setter also ended the weekend with two aces and an overall hitting percentage of .385.
Defensive Player of the Week - Caty Cordano (Sacramento State)
Sacramento State's Caty Cordano had an impressive weekend for the Hornets, competing in matches against Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado. Cordano finished the weekend with a 7.22 digs per set average, posting a total of 65 digs, with 43 against the Lumberjacks and 22 against the Bears. The senior's 43 digs broke Sacramento State's previous school record of 42 for digs in a match, a record that was earned in 1995 and stood for 27 years. The 43 digs also places the libero in the No. 4 spot in the nation for digs in a 5-set match. In Big Sky play, Cordano leads the conference in digs with an average of 6.19 per set.
