FARMINGTON, Utah (Aug. 29, 2022) - After an exciting first weekend of volleyball, the Conference Office has announced its first Player of the Week honors for the 2022 season as Northern Colorado's Makenzie Harris and Weber State's Saane Katoa garnered the weekly awards.
Offensive Player of the Week - Makenzie Harris (UNC)
Makenzie Harris and Northern Colorado went 2-0 to open the season, with an impressive victory over North Carolina to highlight the weekend. Harris averaged 3.71 kills per set, while sporting a .302 hitting percentage. The senior recorded a match-high of 15 kills in Northern Colorado's three-set win over North Carolina, while earning a .464 hitting percentage against the Tar Heels. Harris also added 11 digs to her stat line for the double-double.
Defensive Player of the Week - Saane Katoa (Weber State)
Saane Katoa helped Weber State open the season with a 3-0 record, as the freshman tallied 19 blocks over the weekend for a 1.90 blocks per set average. Her fantastic weekend performance was highlight by and 11-block performance against in-state rival Southern Utah in a match that Weber State went on to win 3-1, in large part due to Saane's blocking efforts. Overall, Katoa is tied for 10th in the nation with her 19 blocks and ranks 13th in the country with her 1.90 blocks per set average.
