FARMINGTON, Utah (May 26, 2023) - This season marks the 50th anniversary of the passing of Title IX, the law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in federally-funded education programs or activities and has helped create gender equality in sports. To celebrate this landmark, the Big Sky Conference is highlighting several inspiring female student-athletes from its member institutions, finally we take a look back at the career of Idaho volleyball star Nancy Wicks Dahlquist.
While playing for the Vandals from 1990-93, Wicks Dahlquist created an impactful legacy for both herself and Idaho as she impressed all on the court.
In her first season with the Vandals, Wicks Dahlquist was named
Freshman of the Year in 1990.
The middle blocker helped led the Vandals to a 77-42 record during her four years and helped Idaho to back-to-back Big Sky Conference titles in 1992 and 1993. Wicks Dahlquist was the conference MVP in both championship seasons and was a First Team All-Big Sky honoree both years as well.
Upon graduation, she held school records for single-game hit percentage (.847) and block assists (12), single-season records for hit percentage (.351) and block assists (155), and career records for hit percentage (.288) and block assists (490). Wicks Dahlquist's 155 block assists in the '93 season and her career 490 block assists are still records at Idaho as she was inducted to the Idaho Vandal Hall of Fame in 2008.
