FARMINGTON, Utah (April 7, 2023) - The 2022-23 season marks the 50th anniversary of the passing of Title IX, the law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in federally-funded education programs or activities and has helped create gender equality in sports. To celebrate this landmark, the Big Sky Conference is highlighting several inspiring female student-athletes from its member institutions, next up we take a look back at the Eastern Washington sister duo of Hayley and Delaney Hodgins.
The Hodgins sisters each played basketball at EWU, with Hayley suiting up with the Eagles from 2013-16 and Delaney's career spanning from 2015-18. The sisters were prolific scorers while at EWU, with Hayley's 1,862 points being a career-high for the program until Delaney bettered her sister's total with 2,120 points of her own to become the program's leading scorer and also earn family bragging rights.
Delaney also holds the school records for most points in a season (692) and scoring average for a season (22.3), but wasn't able to take Hayley's record for 3-pointers made in a season (88) and for a career (243).
Each Hodgins sister was a three-time All-Big Sky selection, while both Hayley (2013) and Delaney (2015) were named Big Sky Freshman of the Year after their outstanding rookie campaigns.
