Three Earn #BigSkyTennis Weekly Honors

NAU's Daryna Shoshyna clinched a 4-3 win over Fresno State to highlight her week

FARMINGTON, Utah (Feb. 8, 2023) - Sacramento State's Mayya Gorbunova and Northern Arizona's Daryna Shoshyna were named Big Sky Women's Tennis Co-Players of the Week, while Weber State's Sebastian Buxman garnered weekly honors on the men's side to highlight Wednesday's laurels. 

Men's Tennis Player of the Week - Sebastian Buxman (Weber State)
Sebastian Buxman won both of his matches in Weber State's 6-1 victory over Grand Canyon this past week, moving the Wildcats' overall record to 3-3 on the season. Buxman won in straight sets at the No. 1 spot in singles, following his 6-2 victory in doubles to give Weber State the early 1-0 lead earlier in the day. 

Women's Tennis Co-Players of the Week - Mayya Gorbunova (Sacramento State/Daryna Shoshyna (NAU)
Sacramento State's Mayya Gorbunova continued her undefeated start to the season, going 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles at the No. 1 spots to help lead her team to a pair of 7-0 shutout victories. Gorbunova is now 4-0 in both singles and doubles, while leading the Hornets to their best program start since the 2011 team opened the season at 6-1. 

Northern Arizona's Daryna Shoshyna went 2-1 in doubles and 2-1 in singles against tough competition this past week. Shoshyna clinched NAU's 4-3 win over Fresno State, who was the Mountain West Champions last season and ranked 65th in the nation at the end of 2022.
