FARMINGTON, Utah (Dec. 5, 2023) – For the second-consecutive week the Big Sky Conference office has awarded Co-Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, this week going to
Money Williams of Montana and
Saint Thomas of Northern Colorado.
Williams helped the Griz in a split of Mountain West Conference foes, averaging 18.0 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game.
He did so through tragedy, as his father passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday night.
He chose to remain with the team for Saturday's game, starting for just the second time this season and making his first five shots in a 21-point, nine-rebound performance. He led the Griz to a 75-58 wire-to-wire win over a five-win San Jose State team.
Williams is one of just seven freshmen in the NCAA to average 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
Thomas, who is earning back-to-back Player of the Week titles, stuffed the stat sheet for the Bears by averaging 20.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 5.0 apg and 2.0 spg.
He had 31 points in Northern Colorado’s victory over CSUN, which is the highest single-game output in the Big Sky to this point of the season.
Others Nominated: Ismail Habib (PSU), Duncan Powell (SAC), Jake Kyman (EWU), D’Angelo Minnis (UI), Kiree Huie (ISU), Trenton McLaughlin (NAU)
