WSU’s Jones Earns Big Sky, Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week

This marks the ninth weekly Big Sky honor for Jones during the course of his impressive career at Weber State University.

FARMINGTON, Utah (Nov. 14, 2023) – On the heels of knocking off the No. 23 team in the country, Weber State’s Dillon Jones has been tabbed both Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week.

The Oscar Robertson Award is handled by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). Both entities announced the award today.

This marks the ninth weekly Big Sky honor for Jones during the course of his impressive career at Weber State University.

He has also become the first Big Sky men’s basketball player to earn National Player of the Week honors from the USBWA since Eastern Washington’s Jacob Wiley earned the title in February of 2017.

Additionally, he’s the first Wildcat to earn the honor since January of 2011 when Damian Lillard was given the title.

Against the No. 23-ranked Saint Mary’s Gales, Jones posted a double-double scoring 29 points and securing 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats became the first Big Sky team since December of 2009 to knock off a Top 25 program when they downed Saint Mary’s. That instance took place when Portland State knocked off No. 25 Portland.

It also marked Weber State's first win over a ranked opponent since December 2000 at Utah.

For the entire opening week, Jones scored a league-high 27.5 points per game, along with another league-higher 12.0 rebounds per game. He was also perfect from the free throw line, shooting 18-of-18 from the charity stripe.

He’s the national leader for defensive rebounds per game across all Division I schools.

Others Nominated: Cedric Coward (EWU), Jorell Saterfield (PSU), Saint Thomas (UNC), Aanen Moody (UM), Terren Frank (UI), Duncan Powell (SAC), Liam Lloyd (NAU)
