FARMINGTON, Utah (Nov. 21, 2022) - Tommy Mellott (Montana State), Spencer Brasch (Cal Poly), David Meyer (Cal Poly) and Abraham Williams (Weber State) earned conference honors after their performances this past Saturday, as the quartet was named Big Sky Football Players of the Week, presented by Cloverdale Plumbing.
Co-Offensive Player of the Week - Tommy Mellott (Montana State)/Spencer Brasch (Cal Poly)
Montana State's Tommy Mellott rushed for 141 yards on 15 carries and threw for 104 more in leading the Bobcats to a 55-21 win over arch-rival Montana. Mellott engineered an MSU offense that produced its most points and rushing yards in the rivalry game's history. The weekly conference honor is the second this season for Mellott and fourth offensive laurel of the year for MSU.
Cal Poly's Spencer Brasch passed for a career-high 415 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-42 victory over Portland State this past Saturday, snapping an eight-game losing skid for the Mustangs in the process. Brasch's 415 yards are the fourth-most for a single game in Cal Poly history, while he finished with 2,604 yards through the air for the year, which ranks No. 2 all-time for the program. The weekly conference honor is the first of the season for Brasch.
Defensive Player of the Week - David Meyer (Cal Poly)
Cal Poly's David Meyer recorded double-digit tackles for the third time this season with 11 stops (7 solo, 4 assisted) in the 49-42 win over Portland State. He also notched his first career Mustang interception, halting Portland State's final drive of the game. Meyer also stopped Portland State on a 4th-and-4 play when Nathan West was stopped for a one-yard gain to the Cal Poly 33-yard line, turning the ball over to Cal Poly midway through the third quarter and preserving Cal Poly's 28-21 lead. The weekly conference honor is the first of the season for Meyer.
Special Teams Player of the Week - Abraham Williams (Weber State)
Weber State's Abraham Williams set a new NCAA record with his fourth 100-yard kickoff return for a score in a season, as he helped the Wildcats defeat Northern Arizona 33-31 on Saturday. The four kickoff return touchdowns are also the most in a season in Big Sky history. Williams finished the day with five returns for 198 yards for an average of 39.6 yards per return. He leads the nation at 45.4 yards per return and is the only player in all of the NCAA (all Divisions) with four kickoff returns for touchdowns this season. The weekly conference honor is the second of the season for Williams.
