POCATELLO, Idaho (Feb. 28, 2026) – For the sixth-consecutive year, Northern Arizona University swept the Big Sky Conference Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships, with the most recent coming inside the ICCU Dome today.
The No. 22-ranked NAU men scored 200 points en roue to their 14
th title in a row, as they outscored the next closest team by over 100 points.
On the women’s side, NAU scored 164.5 points to outpace Montana State, who finished with 135.
A lot of that gap was because of Women’s Most Valuable Athlete Hayley Burns, who scored 30.5 points on her own.
“The women’s race was super tight,” NAU Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jarred Cornfield said. “Montana State was an incredibly strong team, and we knew we’d have to do a lot. We brought 19 women here, so we asked a lot of everyone, especially our distance athletes, and Hayley has turned into one of the best runners in the country. She wasn’t a big time recruit out of high school, but she’s developed and is now quietly one of the best in the NCAA. But she did it for her team.”
Several athletes re-wrote sections of the Big Sky Conference record book on Saturday, including Idaho’s Keenan Kuntz, who broke his own league record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.59 to claim gold in the event.
Montana’s Callie Wilson, who was named Big Sky Conference Women’s Freshman of the Year, set a championship record in the women’s 60-meter dash with a time of 7.26 seconds.
The NCAA record holder in the men’s 800-meter, Colin Sahlman, threw down an impressive 1:46.11 at altitude to earn Men’s Most Outstanding Performer honors.
“Colin has had such a great, consistent year that started with cross country,” Cornfield said. “This meet in particular for his team is super important to him, and now I’m excited to see what he can do in a couple of weeks against the nation’s best.”
Sahlman had two teammates earn individual honors from the Big Sky. Jumper Justin Cardoza was named Men’s Most Valuable Athlete after scoring 19 points, and distance runner Manny Perez was named Men’s Freshman of the Year.
“This is probably one of the most complete men’s track and field teams we’ve had at NAU across the board,” Cornfield added.
Montana State’s Hailey Coey was named Women’s Most Outstanding Performer for her mark in the long jump on Friday, which set a Big Sky Conference record.
