Nico Young Earns Two Individual National Championships; Lumberjack Men Finish Fourth at Indoor Nationals

FARMINGTON, Utah (Mar. 9, 2024) – Northern Arizona’s Nico Young secured a pair of individual national championships on Friday and Saturday to help pace the Lumberjack men to a fourth place team finish at the 2024 Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Boston.
 
Young started his impressive double with a 5K national title on Friday, running a time of 13:25.29 to outpace the field.
 
On Saturday, he ran a meet record 7:41.01 to claim more hardware and score another 10 points for the Lumberjacks.
 
He became the second Lumberjack in the past three season to complete the feat, as Abdihamid Nur did it in 2022.
 
Lumberjack thrower Garret Bernt got NAU Saturday on Thursday in the men’s weight throw, securing First Team All-American status with a 23.09 to put him in third place.
 
On Saturday also in the men’s 5K, Aaron Las Heras became a First Team All-American with a seventh place finish.
 
With a sixth place finish in the men’s mile on Saturday, Colin Sahlman became a First Team All-American for NAU as well.
 
On the women’s side, NAU’s Maggi Congdon earned First Team All-American honors with an eighth place finish in the women’s 800-meter.
