FARMINGTON, Utah (January 16, 2023) – For the second time this indoor season, the Big Sky Conference office has announced its regular Athlete of the Week honors.
Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards are awarded on weeks where four or more teams compete throughout the indoor and outdoor campaign.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – David Dunlap, Northern Arizona
Stepping onto the track in a competition for the first time in 2023, Northern Arizona’s David Dunlap took down a Big Sky Conference record and two school records at the Friday Night Axe ‘Em Open. This has earned him Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Dunlap ran a 20.68 in the 200-meter, setting a new Big Sky best. The previous record was also owned by a Lumberjack, as Anthony Wilson ran a 20.88 in 1992.
Additionally, he crossed the line in 7.62 in the 60-meter dash to set a new NAU record.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Mitchell Effing, Northern Arizona
Setting another school record for the Lumberjacks, Mitchell Effing is the Big Sky’s Men’s Field Athlete of the Week winner.
Effing competed in the triple jump, where he jumped a 15.81m on his second attempt to break a long-standing school record by nearly 0.2 meters.
His previous career-best was 15.32m.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Alyssa Colbert, Northern Arizona
Continuing the run of Northern Arizona accomplishments, Alyssa Colbert is the league’s Women’s Track Athlete of the Week following her performance at the home meet.
Even though she only competed in the 60-meter, she had an outstanding performance where she broke her own school record in a time of 7.30.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Destinee Rose-Haas, Idaho State
Rounding out the group, Idaho State’s Destinee Rose-Haas is the league’s Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Rose-Haas competed in the weight throw at the BYU Cougar Invitational, where she claimed victory with a mark of 18.89m.
That puts her at the top of the Big Sky standings for the event so far.
