NEW ORLEANS, La. (March 21, 2022) – Amongst a stout field, three-time All-American Abdihamid Nur has earned the title of USTFCCCA National Men's Track Athlete of the Year.
Nur gave outstanding, event champion performances in both the 3,000-meter (7:59.88) and 5,000-meter (13:19.01) runs at NCAA Championships earlier this month, contributing 20 of the 29 total team points scored by Northern Arizona at the national championship meet, leading the Lumberjacks to a fourth-place overall finish.
Nur's final NCAA 5K time of 13:19.01 ranks ninth in collegiate history and set a new meet record in the process, while his 3K time to qualify for the national meet (7:40.66) broke the Big Sky record, UW facility record, ranks fifth-fastest all-conditions in NCAA history and fastest on an oversized track.
The redshirt sophomore also doubled as a Big Sky Champion this season, placing first in the mile (4:03.98) and earning gold as a member of the DMR relay team (9:50.86); Nur set a personal record of 3:55.94 in the mile earlier this season as well.
Nur becomes the second Lumberjack man to covet this award after Tyler Day in 2020, and the third athlete in program history, with Johanna Nilsson earning the indoor season honor in 2006.
