FARMINGTON, Utah (March 17, 2022) – After winning an individual national championship in both the men’s 3K and 5K, Northern Arizona’s Abdihamid Nur has been named NCAA Mountain Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Nur contributed 20 of the 29 total team points scored by Northern Arizona at the national championship meet, leading the Lumberjacks to a fourth-place overall finish.
Nur's final NCAA 5K time ranks ninth in collegiate history and set the new facility record, while his 3K time to qualify for the national meet broke the Big Sky record, UW facility record, ranked fastest in the nation, and was third fastest in NCAA history (regardless of track size) at the time.
He was also a double Big Sky Champion this season, placing first in the mile and earning gold as a member of the DMR relay team.
