Another Weekend of Nationally Competitive Marks Translates to Big Sky Indoor T&F Weekly Honors

For the third time this season Portland State’s Katie Camarena has broken new ground for the Vikings, as she is the Big Sky’s Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

FARMINGTON, Utah (January 31, 2022) – Following yet another really impressive weekend of action across the league, the Big Sky Conference office has announced the winners of its Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Katie Camarena, Portland State
 
For the third time this season Portland State’s Katie Camarena has broken new ground for the Vikings, as she is the Big Sky’s Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
 
Running the second-fastest women’s mile in Big Sky history, and the best mark in PSU history, Camarena hit a 4:34.26 at the 2022 UW Invite to move forward into the remainder of the year ranked No. 3 in the entire NCAA.
 
Her third honor comes after setting nationally competitive marks already in both the 3K and the 5K.

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Abdihamid Nur, Northern Arizona
 
Running the second-fastest men’s mile in the Big Sky this season, and the sixth-fastest in the entire NCAA, Northern Arizona’s Abdihmid Nur has been named Big Sky Men’s Track Athlete of the Week.
 
Nur ran a 3:55.94 at the UW Invite, and now sits behind only teammate Nico Young in the Big Sky standings.
 
Coming into the season, his time would have been the second-fastest in Big Sky Conference history.
 
This marks Nur’s second Athlete of the Week honor this season.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Destinee Rose-Haas, Idaho State
 
Setting the best women’s weight throw in the Big Sky Conference this season, Idaho State’s Destinee Rose-Haas has been named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
 
Rose-Haas threw a 20.44m at the 2022 Stacy Dragila Open, which puts her 34th in the entire NCAA.
 
Her mark was also the eighth-best weight throw in Big Sky Conference history.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Grady Leonard, Idaho
 
Marking back-to-back weeks being honored with the award, Idaho Grady Leonard has been named Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Leonard threw a 20.03 in the men’s weight throw and a 17.58m in the shot put at the Idaho Team Challenge in Moscow.
 
He is currently ranked in the NCAA top-50 in both events.
