FARMINGTON, Utah (December 6, 2021) – Across the opening weekend of NCAA indoor track and field a number a Big Sky Conference student-athletes had top-notch performances, highlighted by this group earning the first Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors of the 2021-22 campaign.
Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week – Katie Camarena (Portland State)
Running the second-fastest indoor 5,000-meter time in the history of the Big Sky Conference has earned Portland State’s Katie Camarena Big Sky Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Fresh off becoming the first athlete ever to compete at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships, Camarena broke the PSU school record with a 15:51.49 at Boston University’s Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
Camarena currently stands 17
th nationally and has thrown herself in competition for a spot at the Indoor Championships.
NAU’s Paige Gilchrist set the indoor 5K record in 2018, finishing in 15:45.76.

Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week – Abdihamid Nur (Northern Arizona)
Running the second-fast indoor 5K time in league history, just like Camarena, Northern Arizona’s Abdihamid Nur has been named Big Sky Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Nur’s time of 13:22.24 just nearly missed out on the NCAA top-10 and was the second fastest mark this season.
Former NAU runner Tyler Day owns the indoor 5K record at 13:16.95.
Finishing right behind him was teammate Nico Young, who broke the 5K u20 record with a 13:22.59. Young owns the third-fastest time in the NCAA this season.
Nur just came off yet another incredibly successful cross country season, where he helped lead his team to their fifth NCAA National Championship and secured All-American status.

Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Lucy Corbett (Montana State)
After a second-team All-American performance to cap off the 2021 outdoor season, Montana State’s Lucy Corbett has been named Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week to start the year.
In the high jump Corbett cleared 1.74m, which currently puts her 14
th in the nation in the event.

Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Colby Wilson (Montana State)
Helping sweep the weekly field awards for his institution, Montana State’s Colby Wilson was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Wilson cleared a 5.20 in the men’s pole vault, making in third all-time in the event at Montana State. It also places him fourth nationally.
