2025 #BigSkySB Championship: Day Four Recap

Idaho State sets up rematch with Weber State in Saturday's championship final

GREELEY, Colorado (May 9, 2025)  Top seed Idaho State battled back from the loser's bracket to earn a rematch with Weber State on Saturday, as the two will battle for the Big Sky Softball tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Tournament.

Idaho State downed tournament-host Northern Colorado, 10-3, after the Bears knocked out Sacramento State earlier in the day.

Saturday's championship matchup will be a follow up to Thursday night's 5-2 win over Idaho State for Weber State.

Idaho State will be seeking its first postseason title in program history, while Weber State seeks its first tourney crown since 2022.

Game 8: No. 4 Northern Colorado 8, No. 2 Sacramento State 5
In its fourth game of the tournament, No. 4 seed Northern Colorado knocked off No. 2 Sacramento State, 8-5, to defend home turf in Friday's opening game in Greeley.

The Bears pounced on the Hornets early, scoring four runs in the second to jump ahead 4-1. The runs were spurred on by Jazzy Longo's homer which highlighted a three RBI game for the sophomore. Nya Chacon continued her hot streak in the tournament with three RBI of her own to headline UNC's play at the plate.

Game 9: No. 1 Idaho State 10, No. 4 Northern Colorado 3
No. 1 seed Idaho State bounced back from Thursday's loss to Weber State with a 10-3 win against No. 4 seed Northern Colorado, as the Bengals eliminated the tournament hosts for a shot at the title on Saturday.

Big Sky MVP Ava Brown hit her 25th homer of the season, as the junior led the Bengals with three hits and three RBI for the game. Megan Meracle came in relief in the second inning, as she pitched six innings, allowing three hits, no earned runs and striking out five batters in the victory.

The winner of Saturday's championship will earn the Big Sky's automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Tournament. The selection show for the tournament will be on Sunday, May 11 at 5:00 p.m. MT, airing live on ESPN2.
