2025 #BigSkySB Weekly Notebook: Big Sky Championship

FARMINGTON, Utah (May 5, 2025) – The regular season is in the books and all six Big Sky teams are preparing for postseason play at the Big Sky championship in Greeley. Idaho State has secured the top-seed in the upcoming tournment.

Going to Greeley 

The regular season has come and gone as teams turn their attention towards postseason battle and the upcoming Big Sky Championship hosted by Northern Colorado in Greeley. 

All six teams from the league will make the trip and will compete on Tuesday, beginning their postseason quest.

As the regular season champions, Idaho State has secured the No. 1 seed for the upcoming tournament and hosting rights for next year’s championship. 

All-Conference Awards Announced

The conference office has announced the 2025 Individual Awards and All-Conference Awards.

Player of the Year: Ava Brown, Idaho State*

Pitcher of the Year: Kasey Aguinaga, Idaho State

Co-Freshman of the Year: Madison Evers-Lyles, Sac State/Sadie Kirk, Weber State

Tri-Top Newcomer of the Year: Kasey Aguinaga, Idaho State/Katie Walling, Northern Colorado/Lafulafu Melepeai, Sac State

Coach of the Year: Andrew Rich, Idaho State*

Hornets Sweep Weekly Honors

For the second time this season, the Hornets have swept the weekly softball honors. Katie Marsh earns her second honor while Danyelle Leone earns her first of the season. 

Junior Katie Marsh led the Hornets to a 9-1 home victory over Pacific in the team’s lone game of the week. The catcher went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two home runs, a walk and four RBIs. In the process, she set or matched single-game career bests in runs, home runs and RBIs.

Danyelle Leone threw all five innings while allowing just six hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. She needed just 74 pitches (51 strikes) to throw her second complete game of the season. Leone retired the first eight batters of the game, and she allowed just one extra base hit.

2025 Big Sky Softball Championship

The 2025 Big Sky Softball Championship will be held May 6-9 at Northern Colorado’s Softball Field in Greeley, Colorado.

All six Big Sky softball teams will advance to the double-elimination tournament. The tournament champion will earn the Big Sky’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
