Multiple Championship Records Fall as Outdoor Track & Field Competition Continues in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 16, 2025) – The weather was hot at Hornet Stadium on Friday, but the track was hotter as multiple championship records fell at the 2025 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
The day on the track started with Northern Arizona’s Karrie Baloga running a 9:47.92 in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase to secure a new championship record. That marks the second-consecutive championship she’s claimed the gold medal in that event.
 
There was also a repeat champion in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, as Montana State’s Rob McManus taking the crown for a second-straight season.
 
In the prelims of the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Northern Colorado’s Jerome Campbell ran a 13.43 to set a new championship record and move up to No. 11 this season in the NCAA. He also qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash.
 
A pair of athletes cleared the conference championship record in the women’s pole vault, with both Montana State's Tatum Richards and Idaho State's Elliotte Stockham finishing with a mark of 4.19m. MSU’s Richards took home the gold medal, finishing with fewer faults.
 
On the final event of the day on the track, Northern Arizona’s David Mullarkey broke a 35-year old record in the men’s 10,000-meter. Mullarkey’s time of 29:23.03 topped Montana State’s Shannon Butler, who set the mark to beat back in 1990.
 
With three days of competition in the books, two different teams lead on both sides.
 
In the women’s standings, Montana State holds the top spot with 72.5 points to this point of the meet. Idaho State sits second with 46.5 points and Northern Arizona has 37.
 
On the men’s side, NAU holds the top spot with 65.5 points. The Lumberjacks are followed by Montana State with 43 points and Montana with 42.
 
The fourth and final day of competition will begin at 10 a.m. PT tomorrow, with the ESPN+ broadcast going live at 12 p.m. PT.
