FARMINGTON, Utah (March 27, 2025) – The Big Sky Conference office has released the results of its 2025 Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coaches’ Polls, which have projected the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks as favorites to claim both titles this May.
These polls were voted on by the league’s head coaches. Coaches are able to vote for their own teams.

On the men’s side, NAU received eight of the 10 available first-place votes. Montana State, the league’s defending champions, received two first-place votes and were tabbed second. At the 2024 championship in Bozeman, the Bobcats scored 186 points to outpace Northern Arizona’s 185. That marked MSU’s first title since 2005. Prior to that championship, Northern Arizona had claimed three-consecutive outdoor titles.
In the women’s poll, Northern Arizona received nine of the 10 available first-place votes. Montana State was also projected second in that poll. At the 2024 championships, NAU scored 240.5 points in Bozeman. NAU’s women have claimed four-consecutive outdoor titles in the Big Sky.
Northern Arizona is coming off a sweep of the 2025 Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships, which were hosted in Flagstaff, Arizona. The Lumberjacks also swept the 2024 Big Sky Cross Country Championships in Pocatello, Idaho.
In August it was announced Northern Arizona Director of Track & Field and Cross Country will be stepping down at the conclusion of the 2024-25 seasons to pursue professional coaching opportunities, making this his final run at Big Sky titles with the Lumberjacks.
The 2025 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place in Sacramento, California from May 14-17. The meet will happen inside Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State.
