Weekly Honors Announced for Dec. 15-16

FARMINGTON, Utah (Dec. 15, 2025) – The Big Sky Conference announced its Player of the Week honors, presented by JAMBAR, with men’s indoor track & field, women’s indoor track & field, men’s basketball and women's basketball all in action. 
 
Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (December 15, 2025)

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: Jae Macias, Weber State (Fr., Brigham, Utah)
After breaking the freshman record in the men’s 60-meter dash at Weber State, Wildcat Jae Macias has been named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week. Macias ran a 6.83 before altitude conversion, which puts him at No. 4 all-time in Wildcat history and No. 3 currently in the Big Sky Conference.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: Axel Tirado-Sanchez, Idaho State (Gr., Emmett, Idaho)
With the second-best men’s weight throw in the Big Sky this season, Idaho State’s Axel Tirado-Sanchez has been named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. The mark of 19.20m (63-0) broke the Idaho State indoor school record and ranks 39th in the NCAA overall.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Melia Middleton, Eastern Washington (So., Gilroy, Calif.)
With an Eastern Washington school record now to her name, Melia Middleton has been named Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Middleton broke the EWU record for the 300-meter, which had been held for 46 years, with a time of 39.62.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Kaila Mederios, Idaho State (Sr., Boise, Idaho)
Recording the second-best women’s long jump in the Big Sky so far this season, Idaho State’s Kaila Mederios has been named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. Her mark of 6.01m (19-8.75) was a school record for the Bengals and ranks her 20th in the NCAA for the event.

Big Sky Women's Basketball Player of the Week (Dec. 16, 2025)
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week: Elyn Bowers, Eastern Washington (G, Fr., Pinedale, Wyo.)
Elyn Bowers fillied up the stat sheet against Washington State this past week, help Eastern to its first win over the Cougars since 2015. Bowers scored 20 points, shooting 9-of-17(52.9) from the floor and was 2-of-5(40%) on three-point shots. Bowers added 7 rebounds - second on the team - while leading with 4 assists and 3 steals. 

Bowers has scored in double figures in 8-of-10 of EWU's games this season and is tied for the team lead with 14.0 points per game. She is tied for 9th in scoring in Big Sky and ranks 7th with a 42.7 shooting percentage. Bowers averages 1.5 made threes a game, tying for 11th in the conference. Her 2.4 assists per game ranks 16th

Big Sky Men’s Basketball Player of the Week (Dec. 16, 2025)
 
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week: Malek Gomma, Weber State (F/C, Jr., Anchorage, Alaska)
Following a double-double performance on the road in a victory against Kansas City, Weber State’s Malek Gomma has been named Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Gomma scored a career-high 19 points in the contest, shooting 69 percent from the field. He also pulled down 13 rebounds, which also set a new career-high. This secured the first double-double of his career. Additionally, he matched his career-high in steals with three in the contest. Gomma ranks third in the Big Sky for rebounding with an average of 7.6 in 10 appearances. He junior transferred to Weber State by way of Seattle University, where he spent the first two years of his collegiate career. This is his first weekly honor from the Big Sky and has become the fifth different player to earn the award in six weeks.
