SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (April 19, 2023) – The Hornets of Sacramento State claimed their fifth Big Sky Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Wednesday afternoon, as they handled business by shooting an 856 to win by 16 strokes.
SAC’s 856 is the lowest 54-hole score in Big Sky Conference Championship history, which was previously an 866 carded by Idaho in 2018. It’s also the only final team score in a Big Sky Championship to go below par.
Securing their best finish since 1995, the Montana State Bobcats finished as the team runner-up after shooting an 8-over 872.
Weber State finished in third place with a 10-over team score.
The Individual Champion came from Sacramento State as well, as Hornet Caitlin Maurice held on for the title after leading through 36 holes.
Maurice finished with a 5-under 211, which was closely followed by a 4-under 212 from Eastern Washington’s Jaelin Ishikawa.
Hornet Sienna Lyford finished in third place, shooting a 1-under for the tournament.
In a three-way tie for fourth place to round out the All-Tournament Team was Montana State’s Kameryn Basye and Lauren Greeny, along with Sacramento State’s Jennifer Koga
The Hornets will represent the Big Sky Conference at NCAA Regionals. The field will be announced next Wednesday on the Golf Channel.
