FARMINGTON, Utah (Jan. 10, 2023) - For the fifth-straight season, the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks were picked to win the Big Sky by league head coaches in Tuesday's 2023 Big Sky Women's Tennis Preseason Coaches' Poll. The preseason poll was voted on by the league's head coaches, who could not vote for their own team.
NAU, who finished the year 12-8 overall and 7-1 in league play last season, has won the last three tournament titles in the Big Sky, with 2019's championship being the program's first since 1999. Dating back to the 2016 season, NAU is 51-3 against Big Sky opponents in the regular season.
The Lumberjacks received 62 points in Tuesday's coaches' poll, while earning six first-place votes. Weber State and Sacramento State were picked second and third overall in the poll, with the Wildcats earning two first-place votes and the Hornets owning the lone first-place vote not going to NAU or WSU.
The 2023 Big Sky Conference Women’s Tennis Championship will take place April 27-29 in Phoenix, Arizona. The single-elimination tournament will feature six teams, with the top two seeds receiving a bye into the semifinal round. The winner of the championship will receive the Big Sky's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament.
