NAU's Dittmann Named MVP; Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams Announced

Dittmann's back-to-back MVP honor is the first since Idaho's Marianna Petrei won the award three straight season from 2016-2018

FARMINGTON, Utah (May 9, 2022) - Northern Arizona's Gina Dittmann was unanimously named the Big Sky Women's Tennis Most Valuable Player and Montana State's Marta Garcia-Reboredo earned Big Sky Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year honors to headline Monday's group of nearly 40 selections on the 2022 Big Sky Women's Tennis All-Conference Singles and Doubles Teams.

The all-conference awards and teams are voted on by the league's head coaches. Each head coach could not vote for their own institution's student-athletes.

Dittmann's back-to-back MVP honor is the first since Idaho's Marianna Petrei won the award three straight season from 2016-2018. Overall, NAU has won the award the last three seasons, with Chiara Tomasetti winning in 2019 followed by Dittmann's back-to-back wins in 2021 and 2022.

The Lumberjack earned a 16-2 singles record in dual matches this season, while going a perfect 8-0 in conference play. Dittmann was also dominant in doubles play, earning a 12-0 record for dual matches and 7-0 mark in conference action. Dittmann and the Lumberjacks won a share of the Big Sky title in 2022, before upending Weber State in the conference championship match to earn NAU's third consecutive league title.

The Freshman of the Year honor for Garcia-Reboredo marks the first for Montana State in its Big Sky history, with the award beginning in 2017. The Bobcat finished the year with a 9-8 singles record in dual matches this past spring, while earning a 4-3 mark in conference play.

The All-Big Sky Singles First Team was headlined by Dittmann and Idaho's Ke Syuan Jhang, who each were unanimous first-team selections. The duo was joined by Freshman of the Year Garcia-Reboredo, Ana Morett of Weber State, Sofia Markova of NAU and Grace Haugen of Montana.

The All-Big Sky Doubles First Team was comprised of three dominant tandems, with Capu Sanoner/Nika Beukers of Portland State, Mimi Bland/Annabel Davis of NAU and fellow Lumberjacks Dittmann/Ava Neyestani to round out the selections.

Dittmann was the only player to earn All-Big Sky First Team honors for both singles and doubles. NAU led the league with eight All-Big Sky selections in 2022.
