Multis Conclude As 2022 Big Sky Track & Field Championships Heat Up In Pocatello

POCATELLO, Idaho (May 12, 2022) – Two days of the 2022 Big Sky Conference Track & Field Championships are in the books, with two more days of competition still to come, but the women’s heptathlon and men’s’ decathlon have both concluded at Davis Field.   
 
Idaho State’s Brianna Hagler claimed the women’s hep, scoring a 5,459 to set the 10th best mark in league history. Hagler was followed up by Southern Utah’s Jentry Skidmore and Eastern Washington’s Margaret Nelson on the medal stand in second and third respectively.
 
On the women’s side, Southern Utah holds an early lead after putting up 11 points in the multis.
 
After claiming the top spot in 2021, Weber State’s Celeb Whitney repeated as Big Sky champion in the men’s decathlon, scoring 7,128.
 
The decathlon went down to the final event, as Idaho State’s Chase Gardom pushed Whitney all the way to finish in second with 7,102 points. WSU’s Jed Smith finished third to complete the podium.
 
With two athletes in the top-three, Weber State jumped out to any early lead in Pocatello on the men’s side with 16 points.
 
Competition will ramp up on Friday and Saturday with the multis concluded, as competition is set to begin at 10 a.m. MT tomorrow with the women’s hammer throw and run all the way until 7:05 p.m. with the women’s 10K.
 
All four days of the championship will stream live on ESPN+.
