#BigSkyGolf Q&A w/ Eastern Washington's Alexa Clark
Alexa Clark is a sophomore on the Eastern Washington women’s golf team. The Richland, Wash. native placed seventh at last year’s Big Sky Championship.
What’s your favorite thing about golf?
My favorite thing about golf is that it is such a unique sport that lets you have the freedom to create. I love the competition. It’s obviously not a physical sport and you can’t control what your opponents are going to do like you can in other sports.
I love being able to meet new people and the creativity and focus it takes to play. Every round is different and every course presents new obstacles to overcome. It’s fun to get to create different shots and you learn new things about what you can do and what you can improve on every time you play. Every day is different and it keeps things interesting.
After experiencing what it’s like to play the Big Sky Championships last season as a freshman, what’s your goal for the championships this year?
Last season at Big Sky Championships, I placed 7th which was a big accomplishment for me just starting out. After conference last year, I have made it a goal to place in the top 5 this year. We have played at the championship course many times so it is nothing that I haven’t seen before and I want to give myself a chance to score well.
What's the strongest part of your game?
The strongest part of my game would be course management. I don’t hit every shot perfectly and I miss putts and make mistake but I think that even if I’m not playing the best, I can still find a way to score and post a decent number.
What’s your major and what do you plan to do with it?
I am majoring in exercise science. My plan is to be a dietitian so after Eastern I will get another degree that is focused toward nutrition. I want to work with all sorts of people from athletes to the average person to help people live a long, healthy life. I would want to show people how to fuel their bodies and help athletes improve their performance. Fitness and nourishing your body with healthy foods is my biggest passion and I would love to work with people to be their best selves. I would love to have my own business one day that provides people with a place that they can go to improve themselves alongside a supportive community.
