#BigSkyGolf Q&A w/ Sacramento State's Julia Becker
Julia Becker is a native of Las Vegas, Nev. The senior golfer for Sacramento State earned all-conference first team honors in 2017 and second team accolades in 2018.
What’s it like to have the Big Sky Championships these past few years so close to your hometown?
It’s been very nice because I’ve been playing that course since I was nine for competitive golf. It’s nice to have it close to home so my parents can come watch.
What’s your favorite thing about golf?
I think it’s the competitive aspect of it that I really like. I enjoy going out there and trying to win. It’s always fun. That’s what makes it a great competitive environment, relying on you but with a team aspect.
What made you decide to attend Sacramento State?
There are a lot of reasons, but the main one is that my coach was very interested in my golf from the beginning. He offered me a scholarship. Sacramento State has great weather for golf, and it's pretty good weather all year. The team and the campus were beautiful and everything aligned perfectly. I thought Sacramento State was the best choice for me. It was the perfect distance - not too close and not too far.
What’s it like to play collegiate golf?
It’s fun, although it can be challenging with the travel schedule and missing class. I’m able to meet new people from all over the world and get an education at the same time. I’m surrounded by people going through the same thing as me. It’s a huge community here and I've had a great time. I wouldn’t change it for the world.
