Big Sky Men’s Golf Championship Returns at The Wigwam

Competition begins Monday, April 27 at 6:30 a.m. PT on the Gold Course

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. (Apr. 26, 2026) -- The 2026 Big Sky Conference Men’s Golf Championship returns this week at The Wigwam after a one-year hiatus, with six teams vying for the title of league champion.
 
Eastern Washington is returning to the Big Sky Championship for the first time in 25 years, while Francis Marion will be making their debut as an affiliate member.
 
Competition begins Monday, April 27 at 6:30 a.m. PT on the Gold Course.
 
Championship History
 
When the Big Sky Conference last held a championship in 2024, the Sacramento State Hornets emerged as league champions.
 
Idaho’s Joe Sykes, who is back in the field this week for the Vandals, was the individual champion in 2024. Weber State (2022), Northern Colorado (2023) and Sacramento State (2024) all won team titles leading up to the league’s one-year hiatus.
 
The Vandals (No. 135) enter competition as the top-ranked team in the Big Sky, and are seeking their first team tournament title since 2016.
 
All-Conference & Individual Honors Announced
 
The Big Sky Conference office has released the results of its 2025-26 Men’s Golf All-Conference Team, highlighting the league’s best one day before the championship tournament begins.
 
Following a very impressive campaign, Idaho’s Josh McCartain has been named Big Sky Player of the Year. He will enter the 2026 Big Sky Championship ranked No. 375 in the NCAA, with a scoring average of 71.1 to this point of the year across 30 rounds. He finished in the top-three on two different occasions during the course of the season.  
 
He was named Big Sky Men’s Golfer of the Week three times during the course of the season.
 
McCartain is a senior from Bognar Regis, England, that transferred to Idaho by way of North Idaho College. He was joined by teammate Samuel Johnson on the All-Conference First Team.
 
Sacramento State’s Max Thomas, Northern Colorado’s Kaelen Dulany and Weber State’s Matthew Wilson round out the Big Sky’s First Team.
 
In its first season back from a 25-year hiatus, the Eastern Washington men’s golf program has produced a Big Sky individual award winner, as Cal Anderson has been named Freshman of the Year.
 
Anderson is from Wenatchee, Washington where he competed for Eastmont High School. He secured two top-25 finishes through the course of the season for the Eagles.
