Sacramento State’s Prophet Johnson Named Player of the Week
After leading the Hornets to a pair of victories at home, Sacramento State’s Prophet Johnson has been named Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Johnson averaged 29.5 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, 4.5 steals per game, 3.5 assists per game and 1.5 blocked shots per game across both wins. Sacramento State erased an 18-point deficit in their victory over Northern Colorado, while Johnson had 21 points after halftime including a turnaround jump shot got give the Hornets a four point lead in overtime.
He is a transfer from Fairfield and is the Big Sky Conference leader in steals. He is the first Hornet to earn the title since December of 2024 when Jacob Holt was named Player of the Week.
Portland State Remains Undefeated
After sweeping both Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona at home, the Portland State Vikings sit on top of the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball standings at 5-0. The Vikings are 3-0 in league play at home, and 2-0 on the road. This upcoming weekends, they will travel to Eastern Washington (Thursday) and Idaho (Saturday) in hopes of keeping the winning-streak alive.
Montana State Wins the Brawl, Moves to 5-1
After knocking off Montana at home, and Northern Colorado on the road, the Montana State Bobcats have moved to 5-1 in Big Sky play at sit firmly in second place in the Big Sky Conference. The Bobcats are the top-ranked team in the Big Sky according to the NCAA NET Rankings, sitting at No. 135 in the nation. Portland State is one spot behind them at No. 136.
Stat Leaders
Through 19 appearances Montana’s Money Williams remains the Big Sky’s leading scorer, averaging 19.7 points per game. He is trailed by a pair of Portland State Vikings, with Terri Miller Jr. (18.9 ppg) and Jaylin Henderson (18.4 ppg) sitting second and third respectively.
Portland State’s Tre-Vaughn Minott is the Big Sky’s top rebounder, averaging 9.2 boards per contest through 16 appearances. SAC’s Johnson is second in the Big Sky for rebounding, pulling down 8.0 per game.
Northern Colorado’s Quinn Denker leads the Big Sky in assists, dishing out 6.9 per contest in 18 games played. PSU’s Henderson is second in assist average at 6.2, while UM’s Williams is second in total assists with 103.
As mentioned above, SAC’s Johnson leads the Big Sky in steals with 2.8 per contest through 16 games.
Idaho State’s Evan Otten leads the league in blocks with 33 total for an average of 1.7 per game.
