Northern Arizona Claims Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sacramento

The Lumberjack women scored 222 points, outpacing Montana State’s 158.5 to claim their fifth-consecutive title outdoors

SACRAMENTO Calif. (May 17, 2025) – It was a Lumberjack sweep inside Hornet Stadium, as Northern Arizona claimed both team titles at the 2025 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sacramento.
 
The Lumberjack women scored 222 points, outpacing Montana State’s 158.5 to claim their fifth-consecutive title outdoors. The Bobcats were followed by Montana in third, as the Grizzlies finished with 100 points.
 
This marks NAU’s 16th outdoor title in the Big Sky all-time for its women’s program.
 
On the men’s side, Northern Arizona scored 227.5 points to secure the team victory a year removed from being beaten by Montana State in Bozeman. The Bobcats finished second this year, scoring 154 points. Montana also rounded out the top-three in the men’s standings, scoring 107 points.
 
This marked the 25th title in NAU’s Big Sky history on the men’s side.
 
For Northern Arizona Director of f Cross Country and Track & Field Mike Smith, this marked his final Big Sky Conference Championships, as he’ll be moving into a new position at the end of this athletic calendar.
 
Northern Arizona’s Maggi Congdon was named Women’s Most Valuable Athlete after scoring 20.5 points for the Lumberjacks during the course of the meet.
 
Northern Colorado’s Jerome Campbell and Northern Arizona’s Desmond Lott were named Co-Most Valuable Athlete on the men’s side, after both scoring 22 points.
 
Campbell was also named Most Outstanding Performer after breaking the Big Sky Championship record in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.43.
 
All 20 teams will now turn their attention to NCAA West Regionals, which will run from May 28-31 in College Station, Texas.
