Sac State’s Brakel Named 2023-24 Men’s Golf Coach of the Year

The decision was unanimous from Brakel’s peers

FARMINGTON, Utah (May 3, 2024) – After navigating his team to the 2024 Big Sky title, Sacramento State’s Kamden Brakel has been named Men’s Golf Coach of the Year.

The decision was unanimous from Brakel’s peers, receiving all available votes.

At the 2024 Big Sky Conference Championship, the Hornets shot a 2-under 862 (281, 285, 296) to secure their first championship since 2021, and the third for the program since men’s golf was reinstated in 2015 (2017, 2021, 2024). It’s also the fifth in Sac State’s Big Sky history (adding in 1996 and 1997).

The Hornets had a solid regular season as well, racking up four top-five finishes as a team.

This is Brakel’s third Big Sky Men’s Golf Coach of the Year title, after earning the award in both 2017 and 2021.

Brakel was hired as the Sacramento State men’s golf coach in August of 2015.

Sacramento State will be competing in the Stanford Regional from Monday, May 13 to Wednesday, May 15 at Stanford Golf Course.
