Northern Arizona Secures Two Top-Five Finishes at Cross Country National Championships

Big Sky individual champion Ali Upshaw was the top finisher for NAU

MADISON, Wis. (Nov. 25, 2024) – The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks secured a pair of top-five national finishes on Saturday at the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country National Championships.
 
The Lumberjack women started the day with a fourth place finish, securing 206 total points in the championship 6K.
 
Big Sky individual champion Ali Upshaw was the top finisher for NAU, securing All-American status at 22nd overall in the field. Two-time Big Sky champion Elise Stearns was the second athlete over the line for NAU, becoming an All-American in 36th. For Stearns, she is now a three-time All-American.
 
Running as an individual, Northern Colorado’s Regina Mpigachai finished in 85th.
 
In the men’s championship 10K, Northern Arizona finished fifth in the field, rising steadily as the race went along. At the 7K mark, NAU was in 10th place but used a gutsy performance to finish amongst the top-five.
 
Big Sky individual champion David Mullarkey finished 26th in the nation, earning All-American status. Santiago Prosser joined his fellow Lumberjack in earning the honor, placing 38th.
 
Running as an individual for Weber State, Wildcat Peter Visser finished in 136th.
