’54 for IX’ Champion Headlines Golfer of the Week Awards

The Bobcat sophomore finished a single stroke ahead of the next closest competition

FARMINGTON, Utah (Sept. 27, 2023) – With every Big Sky women's golfer the choice was clear, as the conference office has announced its Men's and Women's Golfer of the Week awards following another exciting weekend of competition.
 
Women's Golfer of the Week: Scarlet Weidig-Velazquez, Montana State

Securing an individual victory at the first-ever Big Sky '54 for IX' tournament, Montana State's Scarlet Weidig-Velazquez has been named Women's Golfer of the Week.
 
She shot a 67 in the opening round for the Bobcats to set the tone, and followed that up with a 69 in the second and a 71 in the final to bring her three-round total to a 9-under 207.
 
The Bobcat sophomore finished a single stroke ahead of the next closest competition.  
 
She's the fourth different athlete to be named Women's Golfer of the Week to this point of the season after a pair of SAC golfers won co-honors a week ago.

Men's Golfer of the Week: Samuel Johnson, Idaho
 
Securing a top-five finish with a 9-under performance, Idaho's Samuel Johnson has been named Men's Golfer of the Week.
 
Johnson and the Vandals competed at the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational, where he shot an opening round 68, followed by a 69 and a 67 to card his 204.
 
He's the fourth different athlete to be named Men's Golfer of the Week to this point of the season.
