Big Sky Announces Soccer Awards Following Week Four

Lujan has proven to be a dual threat for the Lumberjacks, with the ability to move to the back line and protect NAU's territory with pass breakups and interceptions

FARMINGTON, Utah (Sept. 12, 2023) – Four weeks of Big Sky Conference soccer have come and gone, and the league office has announced its most recent round of Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Offensive Player of the Week: Maddie Morgan, Eastern Washington

With yet another explosive weekend, scoring five total goals across two matches, Eastern Washington’s Maddie Morgan has earned her second-consecutive Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Morgan recorded nine total shots, putting seven on goal. She started both games and played 142 minutes.

The Eagles fell short, 4-3, against Boise State, but the team rallied to nearly complete the comeback. Morgan scored the team's first and second goals, cutting the lead to 3-2. In the team's matchup against Saint Mary's, Morgan scored all three goals for EWU, getting two off rebounds.

Morgan leads the Big Sky in goals (10), points (21), shots (25), and shots on goal (18).

Others Nominated: Kaylyn Buchanan (ISU), Alaina Wildenradt (WSU), Allison Veloz (NAU), Hannah Alfaro (UI)

Co-Defensive Player of the Week: Kelsey Jargstorf, Idaho State & Joey Lujan, Northern Arizona

With a pair of impressive performances, Idaho State’s Kelsey Jargstorf and Northern Arizona’s Joey Lujan have been named Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Idaho State knocked off previously unbeaten Wyoming behind Jargstorf’s seven saves as she faced 14 shots in goal for the Bengals. She didn’t allow a goal against the Mountain West foe on the road.

The keeper only appeared against Wyoming and didn’t see the field against Colorado State.

Lujan has proven to be a dual threat for the Lumberjacks, with the ability to move to the back line and protect NAU's territory with pass breakups and interceptions, while moving up the midfield and creating scoring opportunities offensively.

She found the back of the net against San Diego off a corner kick, waiting at the back post and putting a header goal in through two San Diego defenders. Lujan played a vital role in NAU's back-to-back shutout victories while holding Utah Tech to five shots on goal and San Diego to four.

Others Nominated: Kaya Lindberg (UNC), Alyssa Peters (UI)
