Maurice Breaks 36-Hole Individual Scoring Record, Hornets Lead 2023 Big Sky Championships

Maurice’s 66 also tied her school’s record for a single-round score and was just one stroke off from tying the championship record as well

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (April 18, 2023) – With just 18 holes to play, the Sacramento State Hornets are in the driver’s seat at the 2023 Big Sky Conference Women’s Golf Championships, led by a monster performance from the tournament’s individual leader.
 
Caitlin Maurice, a 2022-23 First Team All-Conference member and the league’s Freshman of the Year following the 2021-22 season, leads the field after shooting a 9-under 135 (69, 66) over the opening two days. Her 135 is a conference record through 36 holes, which was set a season at when Northern Arizona’s Ekaterina Malakhova shot a 137 in the first two rounds.
 
Maurice’s 66 also tied her school’s record for a single-round score and was just one stroke off from tying the championship record as well.
 
After knocking in a hole-in-one during the second round, Eastern Washington’s Jaelin Ishikawa sits in a tie for second on the individual leaderboard, shooting a 5-under 139 ovr the opening two rounds.
 
As a team, the Hornets shot a 281 on Tuesday, which is a new conference record for second round score as well. Weber State (283) would have also broken the record on Tuesday, and Montana State (286) would have tied it. For Montana State, that was a school record round.  
 
The Hornets hold a 10-stroke lead with 18 holes to play.
 
The third and final round will begin at 7 a.m. PT on Tuesday morning.
