Northern Arizona Women’s XC Makes Big Sky History

After knocking off NC State at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Wisconsin, the Lumberjacks secured the top spot in the USTFCCCA Coaches’ Poll

FARMINGTON, Utah (Oct. 17, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University women’s cross country team made history today, becoming the first women’s squad in Big Sky Conference history to be ranked No. 1 in the nation for any sport.

After knocking off NC State at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Wisconsin, the Lumberjacks secured the top spot in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Coaches’ Poll for the first time in program history.

They join the men’s program, who is also ranked No. 1, as the top-ranked squad in the NCAA.

This is also the first time that one school has had both top teams in the nation since Oregon was ranked first in the men's and women's polls on Sept. 30, 2008.

The 2023 Big Sky Conference Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships will be held on Friday, October 27th at the University of Montana Golf Course. The event will be hosted by the University of Montana.
