Montana State’s Duncan Hamilton ended his season as the national runner-up in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, claiming a silver medal while breaking a Big Sky Conference record that has stood since 1984

EUGENE, Ore. (June 11, 2022) – Competition for Big Sky Conference student-athletes came to a close at Hayward Field on Saturday afternoon, as all 14 competitors represented the league incredibly well across 14 different events.

The league saw four student-athletes earn First Team All-American honors, and three take home top-three finishes in their respective events.

Montana State’s Duncan Hamilton ended his season as the national runner-up in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, claiming a silver medal while breaking a Big Sky Conference record that has stood since 1984.

Hamilton crossed the line in 8:18.8, which not only was a league record, but was also the third fastest time ever by a collegian in the steeplechase and met the standard for the World Championships.

NAU collected a pair of bronze medals, as Abdihamid Nur finished third in the men’s 10K and teammate Nico Young did the same in the men’s 5K.

The league’s fourth First Team honor went to Drake Schneider, who finished No. 6 in the men’s 400-meter hurdles. He owned the Big Sky Conference record entering the event but broke it once again by crossing the line in 49.08.

All three women that competed for the Big Sky Conference became Second Team All-Americans, with Lucy Corbett (MSU), Jessa Hanson (NAU) and Elizabeth White (SUU) all earning the designation.
